Play in the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y Beta Competition! | News | Pokemon.com.
If you participated in the 2013 Global Showdown and earned a ranking in that competition, you automatically qualify to participate in the new XY beta competition. Check your PGL account to see whether or not you earned a registration slot. If you haven’t, you can request an invitation by following the instructions given in the link.
The competition period begins February 21st and lasts through the 24th. You are allowed up to 20 battles per day, but if you don’t meet that quota, any “unplayed” battles are rolled over into the next day (ex. if you only play 15 battles one day, you are allowed 5 extra battles the next day).
Format is Doubles with levels auto set to 30. National Pokedex #s 1-718 are allowed, barring Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Xerneas, Yveltal, or Zygarde, and any pokemon brought over through PokeTransporter. Other than that, there don’t appear to be any restrictions on species or item multiples, or on moves.

For our Video Game players, wifi competitions are a great way to test your skills, learn new strategies, and get some experience in a competitive playing environment, all without having to leave your house (or wherever your nearest public wifi hotspot is). The new series of competitions allows more opportunities for players to earn Play Points and potentially earn Championship Points, which go toward being able to compete at Nationals and Worlds, respectively. They also offer participation prizes to those who meet the requirements to earn a ranking. The current schedule of announced wifi competitions can be found listed under the Tournaments tab. This article will help explain what you need to be able to compete in a wifi competition, how to register for one, and how to participate. (more…)

On January 17th, next Thursday (UTC), registration will open for the International Challenge January, a wifi competition held on the Pokemon Global Link. Registration will remain open for a week and will close at the end of the 24th, after which the competition will begin. There is a limit of 50,000 participants, so register as soon as you can! Rules are similar to those of the Winter Battle, except that the Juniors and Seniors will have separate age divisions. The participation prize this time will be a Jaboca Berry. The top 128 players in each age division will earn Championship Points, which go towards being able to compete at the World Championships in Vancouver. For our VG players who received credit for attending the Aspertia Gym season, you are now eligible to receive a special Scizor with the Light Metal ability for your Black, White, Black 2 or White 2 Pokemon game. You have until February the 21st to pick it up. Here’s how to get your Scizor:
- Login to your account at the Pokemon Global Link.
- Click the Promotions tab.
- Click the item marked “Claim Your Cool Pokemon League Pokemon!”
- Read the info, then click Submit.
- On the screen with the forest scene, click Yes, then click the object in the scene that is covered with white sparkles (where Scizor is hiding).
- Scizor will leap out. Click OK.
You should find yourself sent back to the Promotions page. Your Scizor is now listed on your Friend Board in your Dream World home. This means that the next time you visit the Dream World with a pokemon you’ve tucked in through Game Sync, then prepare to leave the Dream World after befriending a pokemon on the Island of Dreams and picking out which items to bring back with you, Scizor will be an extra pokemon that arrives in your Entree Forest when you perform Game Sync again.
If you have more than one game synced with your account (ex. Black and Black 2), you can switch games while logged into the PGL and receive another Scizor for your other game by following the instructions above.
