Hey, TCG players!

Every year, following the World Championships tournament (usually by September), the Pokémon Company releases a new Modified rotation of sets by phasing out older sets as the newer sets are released. This is to ensure that the metagame stays fresh and to encourage players to come up with new ideas and strategies that will allow a balance to the game and prevent certain cards and card combinations from becoming too powerful as to negatively affect the overall spirit of the game.

The Modified rotation for the 2012-2013 tournament year is as follows as of October 15, 2012:

  • Black and White (BLW)
  • Black and White: Emerging Powers (EPO)
  • Black and White: Noble Victories (NVI)
  • Black and White: Next Destinies (NXD)
  • Black and White: Dark Explorers (DEX)
  • Black and White: Dragons Exalted (DRX)
  • Black Star Promos (BW01 and higher)
  • Dragon Vault (DRV) (DV is acceptable)
  • Black and White McDonald’s promos (MCD)
  • Black and White Trainer Kits (TK)

Newer sets that are released after this point are also tournament legal. Cards obtained from Pre-Releases are NOT Modified, tournament legal until their actual scheduled release date. Please note that this list is subject to updates as the newer sets are released.

TPCI has also announced that the 2012-2013 Tournament Year will commence on July 9 to allow a head start in obtaining Play! Points towards qualifying for attendance to next year’s National Championships, while the set rotation will still occur on September 1. Players competing in the 2012 World Championships will still follow the HGSS-on format. For more information, click here.

The best opportunities to take advantage of this head start for Play! Points prior to the set rotation are participatinig in Sanctioned, Non-Premier Tournaments for the month of July and August, and participating in the Legend Season at your local League!

You are highly encouraged to build your decks using this new set rotation list as it will better prepare you for competing in future Premier Events when we switch over to this format.

Let me know if you have any questions or feedback!

If you weren’t able to participate in the Victini download last December, you will be able to use your Black or White version to sign onto Nintendo WFC and download the event Victini until June 26. This is the same Victini that was available last year.

While not yet officially confirmed, a leak in English dub titles for the Pokemon anime has revealed that one of the new cities in Pokemon Black and White 2 will be Virbank City. This is the city where Homika runs her Poison-type gym.

Keldeo has had a new forme officially revealed: the Resolution Forme! An in-game event, where Keldeo is taught to use Secret Sword by the trio of Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion, causes him to change formes.

The trio of Tornadus, Thundrus, and Landorus will also be able to change into their new Incarnation Formes in-game, through use of a special item known as the Reflecting Mirror. The name of this item may change in the English language release.

Hey, Trainers!

I hope your summer is going well…a great time to get invovled in some Pokémon activities!

A great showing to Rowell and Gryphon for attending the Macon Battle Roads last weekend on June 3! Rowell even managed to beat me in Top Cut at the Statesboro Battle Roads (held on June 2) and went on to win 2nd Place, while I ended up taking 3rd Place!

Nationals is going to be held in Indianapolis, IN from June 29-July 1. If you are going, you need 10 Play! Points to participate in the National Tournament, otherwise you are welcome to participate in Mini-League, TCG side events, or the VGC tournament while you’re there! I will be going to Nationals and I will post a blog about the experience when I return!

I just wanted to announce that our League will not meet next weekend on June 16, and will resume on June 23 at a new play time form 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. to accommodate the Yu-Gi-Oh! tournaments being held starting at 2:00 P.M. This new time on Saturdays will now be our permanent play time for League unless mentioned otherwise.

Freeze Season has begun, and the Freeze Badge, and Cryogonal and basic Water Energy promo cards are now up for grabs. I hope to see you come out next weekend and earn these collectibles!

I am looking to schedule sanctioned tournaments for our League over the next several weeks. Plese let me know if you have any ideas for what kinds of tournaments you want me to run. The more creative the ideas, the better!

As always, let me know if you have any questions.
