  • NO League this weekend (the 27th)! There will be a Magic event that day. We’ll see you again next week.
  • If you were here for the Nimbasa season, you can download a Multiscale Dragonite to your Black, White, Black 2 or White 2 game through the Pokemon Global Link.
  • The next Nintendo WFC download event will be for a lv100 Deoxys in honor of the upcoming Plasma Freeze TCG set. This will begin May 8 and will work for all Gen V games.
  • The next season of the Pokemon anime just premiered in Japan, and the ending theme is super cute. Take a good look; how many characters do you recognize? Also, see if you can spot the new Sylveon near the end!
  • Speaking of the Pokemon anime, the N saga begins this Saturday for the English dub.

Plasma Freeze Sealed Tournament Twists Revealed! 04/21/2013

Hey, TCG’ers!

If you will be or at least plan on attending the Plasma Freeze Sealed Tournament at HV on May 11, here are some things to consider:
-I have inadvertently wiped the slate clean of all player information on my TOM software, therefore Player IDs will be required for this event. If you have one, please bring it or look up your Player ID number on your Trainer Club account on pokemon.com prior to arriving at the tournament. I will provide Player IDs to new players only. For your privacy protection, please do not comment on this post or any public media with your Player ID number.
-Normal Registration: $27 for six (6) packs to open for the tournament and two (2) more at the end.
-Advantage Registration: $31 for seven (7) packs to open for the tournament and two (2) more at the end. This option is available only to all Spring Regional Championships attendees (TCG or VGC) and the first five (5) players who register that didn’t attend. This is to reward the players who are dedicated to the Play! Pokémon program by attending Premier Events as well the early birds out there.
-Plasma Energy rentals and purchases will be available. Rentals are $3 (or $1 apiece), and purchases are $6 ($2 apiece) for four (4) Plasma Energy. You can use the Plasma Energy you rented/purchased for the tournament. Also, you cannot use bring-your-own Plasma Energy for this tournament.
-Raffles will not be available this time around.
-Door Prizes will include Plasma Freeze packs and theme decks (based on attendance), and a few other mystery items. The more people you invite or bring, the more prizes more people can win!
-While it is highly encouraged, you can pre-register for this tournament by calling HV (information to the right), and providing your name so they have a fair idea how many players will be attending. Your Player ID number (if you have one) isn’t required or  desired to pre-register.

Let me know if you have any questions! Hope to see you and a few friends come out to this event!

Spring Regionals 2013: A Very Brief Review 04/17/2013

Hey Trainers!

Kudos to those who went to Regionals, and regrets to those who didn’t last weekend! It was a great time for those who went to experience big competition in one of the large Pokémon events held throughout the country every season, and what better way to hold it than in the Spring AND in our home state! (Nationals, of course trumps all Regionals experiences, but that is entirely beside the point…)

I had the pleasure of becoming one of the elite team of judges from the Southeast as I have worked with PTOs and resident judges from Georgia and other states such as Florida, Tennessee, and Alabama, and our Tournament Head Judge flew all the way out from California to be here!

I was assigned to be a TCG judge for the Senior Division, and had the fortune of judging two of our very own players who attended from our league, Seth E., and Ian C.! They attended the TCG tournament and earned themselves 3 Play! Points, a black Regionals wristband, and a Regionals promo-stamped Umbreon. While their performance in the Swiss rounds proved to be an uphill battle, they battled hard, had fun, and gained valuable tournament experience for their efforts. Great job, Seth and Ian!

The Senior Division tournament ran 7 rounds of Swiss and a Top Cut to a Top 16. Elsewhere, the Junior Division ran 6 rounds of Swiss for a Top 8, and Master Division ran 8 rounds for a Top 32. From JR/SR/MA order, the Champions were from Georgia, Virginia, and Florida respectively. I was able to judge through Seniors Top 4 before my Division Head Judge released me for the evening in preparation for the VGC the next day.

On VGC day, we held the Junior and Senior Division tournaments early while Masters TCG Top 16 was going on at the same time. All divisions (including Masters that occurred later on that day) held multiple Swiss rounds and a cut to a Top 8.

In honoring more of our locals coming up to Regionals, I managed to find Gryphon in attendance as she came up the line for registration in the Masters Division tournament. She went on to play to a 5-3 record that day, and for participating, she received 3 Play! Points, a white Regionals wristband, and a Regionals promo-stamped Umbreon. A great job to Gryphon for a wonderful performance!

Also, in case anyone was wondering, the Pokémon video game promo distribution for Regionals was Ludicolo.

I’d like to post pictures directly onto this blog entry but since I took several noteworthy pictures, I figured I’d post a link to my Facebook. Click here if you’d like to view the pictures. Enjoy!

Again, a big thanks to Seth, Ian, and Gryphon for coming up to Athens last weekend to represent WRAPL at Spring Regionals, and I hope you all learned a good deal and gained some experience competing with other players across the region!

Let me know if you have any questions!

Professor’s Corner: Professor Cup 2013 Format 04/10/2013

Hey, TCG’ers!

I am pleased to relay the format for this year’s North America Professor Cup announced by TPCi representative Dan Brant! For those of you who are Professors, have earned 75 Professor Points for the tournament year between September 1, 2012 and June 15, 2013, AND plan to attend the U.S. National Championships in Indianapolis, IN, it will also be held on the same weekend. For those who aren’t Professors or are but cannot attend, this is an idea for a fun format to consider playing in unsanctioned tournaments.

Format and Rules:
1. Sets/cards allowed are BLW-on, and Black Star Promos BW01-on
2. 30-Card Constructed Rules: Similar to 60-card Constructed but…

  • no more than two (2) copies of any one card allowed in your deck (with the standard exception of Basic Energy) AND
  • games will be played to three (3) Prize Cards

3. “Kiddie Pool” (Additional Rule):
Pokémon used must be able to evolve to a Stage 1 or Stage 2 Pokémon.
For example:
• Tepig can evolve to Pignite and so would be allowed.
• Pignite can evolve to Emboar and so would be allowed.
• Emboar is unable to evolve and so would not be allowed in a deck.
• Bouffalant is unable to evolve and would not be allowed in a deck.

Swiss rounds are played in a 20-minutes “Plus 3” time format.
Single Elimination rounds are played in a 45-minutes “Plus 3” time format.

This is an interesting and fun format to experiment, and I will definitely be coming up with deck ideas to construct and practice in preparation to compete in the Professor Cup this year.

Let me know if you have any questions!

League Session WILL be cancelled on April 13th and 14th for Spring Regionals.
Regionals is THIS WEEKEND! As such, we will be cancelling our regularly-scheduled League session on Saturday. Please go out there, represent your area, meet players from across the southeast region, and play a few games and trade some stuff, as it’s one of the few really big events that come to GA once a year! Click on the Tournaments tab above for more information.

If you plan on staying for the weekend in Athens, keep in mind that it will be difficult being able to schedule hotels in the Athens areas due to another big event going on near the University of Georgia campus. Keep this in mind while planning your trip.

Umbreon will be the TCG promo card for participating (for TCG and VGC) in addition to earning three (3) Play! Points.
