The International Challenge series are opportunities for competitive VG players to earn Championship Points toward an invite to the World Championships by participating in wifi competitions. Registration stays open for a week or so, and is done through Pokemon Global Link and the participant’s format-legal version copy of the Pokemon video game. After registration closes, the competition typically lasts for 4-5 days over the following weekend, often with a restriction on how many battles can be played in a single day. When the competition ends, results are tabulated, and are often posted within the next two weeks.

Format: Standard Doubles.
Games: Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire versions (cartridge or download).
Levels: All pokemon with levels higher than 50 will be autoleveled down to 50 for the duration of the battle. (They keep their moves, but their stats will be recalculated for the battle.)
Pokemon: Any pokemon from the National Pokedex (basically meaning any pokemon that has been made available so far), except for the following: Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem (plus White and Black Kyurem), Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, and Diancie. All pokemon on your team must have different National Pokedex numbers (this means that you may not have two or more of the same pokemon, even if they have different formes, like Wash Rotom and Heat Rotom).
Origin: Pokemon must have been obtained in some legal manner (capturing, hatching, evolving, or through an in-game event such as from an NPC or special download) in either Pokemon X, Y, Omega Ruby, or Alpha Sapphire, with a blue pentagon showing on the pokemon’s status page to prove this. (Pokemon legally obtained in X or Y will, of course, have to be transferred to Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire for you to be able to use them.)
Hidden Abilities: Permitted.
Mega Evolutions: Permitted. Of course, you can still only perform one Mega Evolution per battle.
Items: All items obtainable in Pokemon X, Y, Omega Ruby, or Alpha Sapphire (plus any that you get from the Pokemon Global Link or from special events) are permitted, except for the Soul Dew. Pokemon must all be holding different items, if they are holding any at all.
Moves: There are no banned moves. (This means you can still use your Dark Void Smeargles.)

Coming up soon is the 2012 VGCS Winter Battle, a wifi competition similar to the previous Spring Friendly and Autumn Friendly tournaments, but with a big difference; players can earn Championship Points, which go toward being able to compete at the World Championships in Vancouver next summer, while the top finishers can also earn byes at the upcoming Winter Regional Championships in January. You can even get a Custap Berry in your game just for earning a ranking!

The Winter Battle will be one of several wifi competitions lined up for the 2012-2013 Video Game Championships series, giving video game players more chances to become eligible to compete at Worlds. Registration is already open at the Pokemon Global Link (click Competitions to reach the signup page) and will remain open until 6:59 PM EST, December 13th (or until the registration cap of 50,000 entrants is reached, whichever occurs first). The tournament will then begin exactly at 7:00, December 13th, and will end on the 17th.

To earn the Custap Berry item prize in this competition, players must complete at least 10 games and maintain a low disconnect rate. For each of the three age divisions, 128 players from North America, as well as 128 from Europe, will earn Championship Points. The top 16 North American finishers will earn a first-round bye at the next Regionals. If you want to try to earn a high ranking in order to win Championship Points or the award byes, then you will need to battle as often as you can during the competition period!

This competition, like other wifi competitions as well as live competitions, will be using the new Modified format for the Pokemon Video Games, which involves Double Battles only. Players who wish to participate will need a copy of Pokemon Black 2 or Pokemon White 2 (so as to include the new Therian formes of Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus, as well as pokemon with hidden Abilities that can only be obtained using these versions), with a legal team of 6 pokemon and items. You can read more about the new rules and formats for the Video Game here.
