Professor/ League Leader VG Challenge Rules

You may challenge a League Leader to a special set of VG battles per League Session or League Season and possibly earn additional stamps for games won during this challenge. Such challenges may help prepare you for future tournaments and gain valuable experience.

  1. League Session is defined as the weekly gatherings of our league at the defined time and place.
  2. League Season is defined as the period in the League Cycle of the current League prize distribution.
  3. The format for the VG League Leader Challenge will be Double Battles.
    1. Flat Battle will be used; Pokémon with levels 51 or higher will automatically become level 50 for the duration of the battle.
    2. The Wonder Launcher will be turned off.
  4. Your console and game version must meet the legal standards for premier tournaments at the time when the challenge is issued.
    1. The console you use must be from the Nintendo DS family; this includes the Nintendo DS, DS Lite, DSi, DSiXL, 3DS, and 3DSXL.
    2. Until October 27th 2013 (the final day of the Fall Regional VGC), you may use either Pokémon Black 2 version or Pokémon White 2 version.
    3. From October 12th 2013 and on, you may use either Pokémon X version or Pokémon Y version. (Rules concerning legal pokemon, moves, and items are subject to change following the worldwide release of these versions.)
  5. Your team of Pokémon must meet the legal requirements.
    1. Your team must contain 4-6 Pokémon, and must either be entirely in your party or entirely deposited inside your PC’s Battle Box.
    2. It may not contain any of the following Pokémon, which are typically banned from sanctioned tournaments: Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys (all formes), Chatot, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina (both formes), Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin (both formes), Arceus (all types), Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem (including both fusions), Keldeo, Meloetta, and Genesect.
    3. It may not contain more than one Pokémon with the same National Pokedex number (ex. You may not have both a Wash Rotom and a Frost Rotom on your team, as they are both formes of Rotom and count as the same species of Pokémon).
    4. It may not contain more than one Pokémon with the same nickname (ex. A Garchomp and a Tyranitar both named Fluffy).
    5. It may not contain any Pokémon with a nickname that is a species of a different Pokémon (ex. A Hydreigon named Lickilicky).
    6. If any Pokémon are holding items, no more than one Pokémon may hold the same item.
    7. No Pokémon may know the moves Sky Drop or Dark Void.
    8. No Pokémon may hold the item Soul Dew.
    9. All of the Pokémon on your team must have been obtained through legal means (ex. breeding, capturing in-game, trading, or obtaining through a special event), may only know moves that they can have or learn legally (ex. through leveling up, from move tutors or TMs/HMs, through certain events in the game, as egg moves from breeding, or from being obtained through a special event), and may only hold items that were obtainable in Pokémon Black 2, White 2, Black, or White versions, from the Pokémon Global Link, or through a special event. Absolutely under NO circumstances are you allowed to use Pokémon obtained through hacking, through the use of a cheating device, or through third-party game-altering programs or generator applications such as PokeSav, PokEdit, and Pokémon Generator. Players are responsible for ensuring that their Pokémon, learned moves, and held items are legal. Any players found to be using illegitimately-obtained Pokémon, Pokémon with illegal moves, or held items unobtainable through legal means, may lose their challenge privileges for the duration of the League Cycle.
  6. Battles will take place in the Wireless Union Room’s colosseum. Speak to the left character on the second floor of any Pokémon Center in the game to enter the Union Room. The League Leader to whom the challenge was issued will approach you in the Union Room to start the battle and set the rules. Once your avatar is in place inside the colosseum, you will be able to preview your opponent’s team, then choose four Pokémon from your team to battle (likewise with your opponent). The battle ends when all four Pokémon on a player’s team are knocked out.
  7. Single Battle – You may challenge a League Leader of your choice to a single battle once per League Session. You will earn 2 stamps for playing, and 4 stamps for successfully defeating the League Leader.
  8. Best of 3, First to 2 – You may challenge a League Leader of your choice to a Best of 3 only once per League Season. The challenge ends when the first player wins 2 battles. You will earn 4 stamps for playing if you lose both battles, 6 if you win one battle, and 8 if you win both battles.
  9. If, during your challenge, you are found to be in violation of any part of Rule 5, the challenge ends immediately and will only count as a non-challenge single game for 1 stamp per game played up to that point. The challenge will count as having been performed if it was a Best of 3. A Single Battle challenge can be redone if you modify your team as defined in Rule 5.
  10. If, during your challenge, you are found to have engaged in improper sportsmanship or gamesmanship (i.e. cheating), the challenge ends immediately, you will receive NO stamps, and it will count as having been performed. Repeated offenses can ultimately result in removal of your challenge privileges for the remainder of the League Cycle.
  11. Professor/League Leader Challenges do not qualify for double points during designated Double Points weekends.
